What You Need to Know
Dental implants are the modern day tooth replacement alternative. Each biocompatible titanium implant functions as an artificial root that is anchored directly into your jaw.
Not only does your body accept the implant, more than likely your jaw will develop new bone around it to keep it in place permanently.
It doesn’t matter how many teeth you need replaced, implant treatment can be tailored to your unique situation. Single teeth can be replaced with one implant and a fixed porcelain crown. Three or four teeth? An implant supported bridge. What if you’re replacing all of your teeth at one time? Then an implant supported denture, hybrid denture, or All-on-4 prosthesis may be the best solution.
They Can Last for the Rest of Your Life
Dental implants are the only type of restoration that has the potential to last for the entire life of the patient. When well cared for, your jaw will fuse with the implant and keep it in place through a process called osseointegration.
However, it is important to brush and floss your implants just as if they were natural teeth. This can prevent any infection developing around the gums, known as peri-implantitis (similar to periodontal disease.)
Implants Aren't Scary
The thought of putting something new into your mouth may make a few people feel squeamish. In reality, getting implants is a lot easier than you think. In fact, many of our Menlo Park dental implant patients find that the process is easier than having a crown made. Find out more about our implant therapy options by calling the office of Dr. Scott Hoffman to schedule a consultation. We’ll be happy to answer any questions that you have about the process as well as review financing options.
